I’ve been battling horrible migraines for quite some time. Â A couple months ago I got a pain above my left eye and the entire left side of my face went numb. Â You could literally draw a line down the center of my face and the left side felt heavy and strange and the right side felt normal. Â I went to my doctor and she told me the results of my blood work. Â Everything was good, except my vitamin b-12 was very low. Â So low that I have to go in once a month to get a vitamin b-12 shot. Â My doctor also wanted me to go see a neurologist to rule out a few things.

About my Migraines
Of course I went straight home and started Googling. Â Who wouldn’t? Â Big mistake on my part. Â Sure I read that my vitamin b-12 could be directly related to my horrible headaches AND facial numbing, but then I read about how I could have a brain tumor. Â And since I am a HUGE Days of Our Lives fan, I was freaked out (if you don’t know what I’m talking about…Lexi, one of the main characters just died from a brain tumor). Â So of course, I’m convinced I have a brain tumor.
A Visit with the Neurologist
My neurologist, thankfully, does not think I have a brain tumor. Â But just in case, she sent me to have a MRI and MRA with contrast. Â Which I did today. Â Let me just say, I am SOOO glad I had a high dose of Xanax. Â I don’t know if you’ve ever had a MRI or not, but it is the most unnerving (even with Xanax) to be shoved into a very tight fitting tube. Â And since I was having a brain scan, I had to go in head first and wear some weird cage type thing over my face. Â I pretty much spent the hour counting to ten just to keep myself calm. But if this can help my migraines, I will do it!
About my MRI and MRA
When they put the contrast in and the horribly loud noise started up again, I could feel all this weird pushing and pulling on my stomach and all I thought away was “holy crap, what if they used staples inside me to close up what needed to be closed up after the c-sections?”. Â All I pictured was a bunch of staples being ripped from my body. Â Highly unlikely, but with my luck, it would totally happen to me!
The overall test was not bad. Â But I will save this…have them cover you with blankets. Â It’ gets pretty darn cold in there! Â That and wear the earplugs. Â The noise is not only annoying, but it is loud and it startles you from time to time. Â But I did it! Â I was completely still and they were able to get all the pictures of my brain that they needed. Â Results of my MRI and MRA will be available at my appointment on October 10th. Â I will be sure to update everyone!
Have you ever had a MRI or MRA? Â What did you think? Â Also, if you had one before and had to get contrast, did it make you feel like you wet your pants? Â Leave me a comment telling me about your experience.
