I’ve been battling horrible migraines for quite some time. A couple months ago I got a pain above my left eye and the entire left side of my face went numb. You could literally draw a line down the center of my face and the left side felt heavy and strange and the right side felt normal. I went to my doctor and she told me the results of my blood work. Everything was good, except my vitamin b-12 was very low. So low that I have to go in once a month to get a vitamin b-12 shot. My doctor also wanted me to go see a neurologist to rule out a few things.

About my Migraines
Of course I went straight home and started Googling. Who wouldn’t? Big mistake on my part. Sure I read that my vitamin b-12 could be directly related to my horrible headaches AND facial numbing, but then I read about how I could have a brain tumor. And since I am a HUGE Days of Our Lives fan, I was freaked out (if you don’t know what I’m talking about…Lexi, one of the main characters just died from a brain tumor). So of course, I’m convinced I have a brain tumor.
A Visit with the Neurologist
My neurologist, thankfully, does not think I have a brain tumor. But just in case, she sent me to have a MRI and MRA with contrast. Which I did today. Let me just say, I am SOOO glad I had a high dose of Xanax. I don’t know if you’ve ever had a MRI or not, but it is the most unnerving (even with Xanax) to be shoved into a very tight fitting tube. And since I was having a brain scan, I had to go in head first and wear some weird cage type thing over my face. I pretty much spent the hour counting to ten just to keep myself calm. But if this can help my migraines, I will do it!
About my MRI and MRA
When they put the contrast in and the horribly loud noise started up again, I could feel all this weird pushing and pulling on my stomach and all I thought away was “holy crap, what if they used staples inside me to close up what needed to be closed up after the c-sections?”. All I pictured was a bunch of staples being ripped from my body. Highly unlikely, but with my luck, it would totally happen to me!
The overall test was not bad. But I will save this…have them cover you with blankets. It’ gets pretty darn cold in there! That and wear the earplugs. The noise is not only annoying, but it is loud and it startles you from time to time. But I did it! I was completely still and they were able to get all the pictures of my brain that they needed. Results of my MRI and MRA will be available at my appointment on October 10th. I will be sure to update everyone!
Have you ever had a MRI or MRA? What did you think? Also, if you had one before and had to get contrast, did it make you feel like you wet your pants? Leave me a comment telling me about your experience.
