When I was in 7th grade, my class went to Toronto for 3 days. We did a lot of things while we were there. One night we had the choice between going to see The Phantom of the Opera or Medievil Times. I chose The Phantom of the Opera. Even to this day…18 years later…I regret not going to Medievil Times. I really wanted to see what a dinner show was all about. Well I finally got my wish!!
Dixie Stampede, in Pigeon Forge, TN is a dinner show that is fun for the entire family! Once we arrived, they usher you in and take a picture of you…here’s ours:
Because we had such a large group attending the show, they also took a picture of us outside:

After the picture taking, we headed into the pre-show, which consisted of drinking soda or non-alcoholic fruit drinks out of a boot shape cup, eating tasty snacks and listening to a hilarious and talented Bluegrass band. Many of the songs they sang are things we’ve heard before or sang as a child! Here’s a short video I took:
I literally could have listened to them all night long!! Once they were finished singing, we were escorted into the area and seated for the dinner show. Being that I had never been to a dinner show and given that this show had live animals in it, I was afraid that it would smell like a barn, but it didn’t, which was a huge plus!
Once the show started, the servers immediately started bringing the food out. We started out with a yummy biscuit and then a bowl of creamy vegetable soup. They were both DELICIOUS! I sat there for a moment before eating my soup because I did not have a spoon. As I looked around I saw people pick their bowls up and drink from them like they were a cup…so I did the same! Next we got a whole rotisserie chicken, piece of pork, potato and corn on the cob. Again, I waited a moment…I still didn’t have silverware. I looked around and watched everyone eat with their hands. Apparently I missed the memo that said “you eat with your hands at Dixie Stampede”. So I dug in, but I may or may not have asked our server for a knife and fork after a little bit…! Dinner ended with a tasty dessert!
Each side of the arena is broken into the North and the South. Each side competes in a bunch of different activities and they even get kids and other audience members involved!! My kids would have LOVED chasing the chickens and trying to get them to the other side of the arena!
All in all, I had a really great time. Like everywhere else we went in Pigeon Forge, the staff displayed true southern hospitality!
