What is it with Caillou?

This past weekend my kids were lucky enough to spend the weekend at my parents house.  I say lucky because one, they love going there and two, my husband and I had the worst case of stomach flu known to man kind.  I know I said I wished for more alone time with my husband, but not like this!  During one of my calls to my moms to see how the kids were doing (and making sure they weren’t puking their brains out too), she told me that Bella was watching Caillou with my dad.  I thought we were done with the whiny little kid.

Canada Caillou

You see, Bella has always been obsessed with Caillou.  When she was two, she received a Caillou doll from her Auntie who found it in a store that sold baby toys in Cananda.  I think the entire neighborhood heard Bella squeal when she opened that present up!  That doll went everywhere with us; she slept with it; even left it in a grocery store, which almost caused a major meltdown of epic proportions, but daddy saved the day and got Caillou back! From that moment on, the doll stayed in the car waiting in Bella’s car seat for her to come back.  She wasn’t about to lose him a second time!

And here I thought we were done with Caillou.  Something about him drew her back in.  Didn’t it seem strange to Bella that she is now in Kindergarten and Caillou is still in preschool, where he has been since she was two?  But then again, Bart Simpson has been in the fourth grade for how many years?  I guess some things never get old!

Are there any toys or shows that your children have held on to that you never would have thought they would still like?
