The First Daddy Daughter Dance!

Bella came home from school a couple weeks ago beyond excited.  She heard that her school would be having a Daddy Daughter dance.  She begged me to call Dan and see if he wanted to take her.  It was really sweet.  She looked at me with her big blue eyes and said “do you think daddy would want to take me?”.  How sweet is that?!?  I told her that I was SURE her daddy would want to take her, but since he travels so much for work, let’s make sure he will be in town that particular day.

So I called him.  The second I told him about the dance he asked me when it was and told me to tell Bella that he would  be home to take her.  She was over the moon!  In fact, she followed me all over the house until I sat down and wrote the check for the tickets and corsage (though she had no clue about the corsage…that was going to be a surprise).

She and I decided that she would wear her fanciest dress.  A pretty dark blue one that she wore to the Cheerleading and Football banquet.  I wanted to surprise Bella with letting her get her hair done all fancy.  I called around to different places.  Some were a little bit more than I wanted to spend, price wise and the woman that cuts her hair was unavailable that night.  So I asked Bella’s Auntie if she would do her hair for her.  Of course she said yes!  When I told Bella she was going to have fancy hair, she asked if she could have a crown and sparkles in her hair.  Quite the little diva!  I didn’t get a crown, but I did get a pack of iridescent sequins and we shoved them on bobby pins and stuck them in her hair.  It looked great!

I think Bella was trying to give me a glimpse as to what she is going to be like when she is a teenager going to school dances.  She asked me where she was going to get her nails done for the dance.  I looked at her, stunned, for a moment (though I shouldn’t have been…I mean it was my idea to get her hair done) and then I said “Casa de la Kanaan’s”!  She immediately ran up to my room and grabbed the two nail polishes that she has been dying to have on her nails…especially the sparkly one!  So we sat down and started painting!

Since her hair and nails took awhile, I called my husband and asked him to bring Bella’s dress and shoes to his sisters house and pick Bella up there.  Bella squealed and said “like a real date”!  May I remind you…she’s six and she ‘s already excited about dating.  But when my husband got there to pick her up, you could see how excited he was to take her to this.  And it was so cute!  Bella got dressed quickly and off they went.  But not before I got a picture of the two of them and then reminded my husband to take some while they were there!

So what was Bella’s favorite part of the daddy daughter dance?  Was it spending one on one time with her daddy?  Or maybe dancing and seeing her friends?  Oh no.  It was the chocolate fountain they had there.  Yep.  The chocolate fountain!

They are both so cute! When my daughters were growing up, I was the Girl Scout Service Unit Director for my county. I planned a Father Daughter Dance every year. The only way moms could come was if they volunteered to work at the dance. It was always the most anticipated activity of the year.

This is so sweet. Bella looks beautiful. I love Father-Daughter dances. It’s a great chance for dads to model how their daughters should be treated when they start dating.

So sweet! You made her first experience such a beautiful one. But, yeah, I’d be enthralled with the chocolate fountain too.

What a sweetheart. You can see the sparkle in her eyes. Love that Daddy didn’t hesitate to say yes in a heartbeat.
