How to Naturally Cure Strep Throat

This has been the WORST winter, when it comes to illnesses, in our home.  We got the stomach flu after Thanksgiving and then strep throat twice in December, once in January and I have it again now in February.  Only this time…it doesn’t want to go away.  Apparently strep gets smart and starts to recognize the Augmentin and doesn’t go away.  I started to get sick again this past Sunday.  I went to the doctor on Tuesday and they gave me Augmentin.  Here it is Friday, and I found myself back in their office…my strep and ear infections are still going strong.  So they prescribed Biaxin.  Hopefully this helps.

However, if Biaxin does not help, I’ve scoured Pinterest to find some natural remedies…

  1. Honey, Garlic and Cayenne…mix this all up and swallow 1/2 a tsp every half hour.  See the recipe and directions here.
  2. Vodka or Whiskey…do a shot…adults only though!  See that remedy (and others) here.
  3. Zinc helps to reduce inflammation.  Check this site to see which foods are naturally high in Zinc, here.
  4. Make your own throat lozenges…check out the recipe here!
  5. I have a friend that swears by Grape Seed Extract
  6. Gargle with Listerine and Peroxide…see how often to do this and the benefits here!

I have everything on hand (except for the Grape Seed Extract) to try any one of these remedies.  I’m thinking about trying the Listerine and Peroxide method first.  A friend texted this method to me this evening and it seems like the easiest to start with.  If that doesn’t work, I will just start doing shots of Vodka!  Whether it works or not, I’ll be drunk eventually and not feeling a thing…seems like a win-win to me!

Just remember, the most important thing to do when you are sick is to make sure you are getting enough fluids.  It seems like no matter how much water I drink, I am still thirsty.  The doctor told me today that it’s because of my fevers.  Stay hydrated and try one of these methods above!  Be sure to let me know which one you tried and if you thought it worked for you!

Summer can’t get here soon enough!

Thanks for sharing the recipe for homemade cough drops. I’m finally getting over my cold, but now my son has it. Hope you feel better soon!
