Decorating Our House

We’ve lived in our house for a little over nine years now and while we have a couple pictures on the wall, it’s not really decorated.  Our is a bunch of hand me downs (I think we purchased two pieces)…which is OK.  It’s all in great condition and I actually  love the couch my parents gave us.

741260_10151155694917624_402632235_oThis couch looks perfect in the room.  I really couldn’t be happier.  Well that’s not true!  I want new end tables (those are from Ikea…they cost $6.99 each haha!).  What you can’t see in this picture are the drapes.  They are ugly.  Definitely need new ones!  I’ve been looking around online at different decor ideas and I definitely like to buy decor at Bombay.  Have you seen that site?  All of the items are very unique.  I especially like the vases and mirrors.

We won’t be staying in this house forever…shoot we only planned to stay her for a couple years, but then the housing market crashed and here we are, nine years later…in the same house.  But that hasn’t stopped me from thinking about all the things I want in my “real forever” home.  I want a kitchen large enough to have a big island and a large, Amish style farm table.  I just really love those tables.  Other things I would like in my “real forever” home are:

  • A dining room.  Not because we are overly formal, but because when we have family over, there are a lot of us and we run out of places to sit.
  • A large great room.  I don’t a separate living room and family room.  One large room that opens up to the kitchen would be ideal for me (think Extreme Home Makeover style homes).
  • Two offices…one for me and one for Dan.
  • Each bedroom has it’s own bathroom
  • A finished basement
  • First floor master

I know that’s a pretty long list of wants, but if this is going to be my forever home…I want it to have EXACTLY what I want.

What is your decor style?  Do you have a lot of unique items in your home?  Leave me a comment telling me about your decor style is like and what types of features you like in a home.

Personally I think it looks great, I wouldn’t worry about not having gone to town on intentionally redecorating. As long as it looks good (which it does) and everything fits in nicely then that’s the main thing.

We have lived in our house for almost 3 years & haven’t even hung a picture. We aren’t great at decorating.

There are a few things I’d love to change about my house now. I’d love to finally get my 2nd bathroom done. It doesn’t have to be pretty, just a shower, toilet and sink! I’d probably knock out or cut in half a few walls in the middle of my house to make it more open. My husband would rather the living room be in the front of the house instead of the kitchen.

I think it looks great! We’re getting ready to decorate our girls room this year and I’ve bee looking around at some things on the web to get inspiration. Any thoughts for designs?

I know what you mean, we had a DIY splurge last year where we did loads of changes, however we’ve hardly done any of the smaller ‘finishing touches’ since then even though they would be a lot simpler!
