It’s that time of year again…time to start figuring out what we are going to get our loved ones for Christmas. On Saturday, November 9, 2013, is Neighborhood Toy Store Day! This day is coordinated by ASTRA (American Specialty Toy Retailing Association) and it is a great way to get to know more about your local stores!
Benefits of Shopping Local
- Local businesses create more jobs and preserve neighborhoods.
- Independent local businesses put a significantly larger share of revenue back into the local economy in the form of taxes, salaries and more.
- These independent toy stores tend to carry more high-quality, boutique and specialty products that you can’t typically find at big box stores.
We had the opportunity to try out a couple toys that made it to ASTRA’s “Best Toys for Kids 2013” list!
Laser Maze
Laser Maze by ThinkFun, Inc is a challenging game for children 8 and up. This game is a beam-bending logic game that encourages children to use science and a brain power to direct the laser beam through a series of mazes.

X-treme Sticker Maker Set
Now this is super cool!! The X-treme Sticker Maker set comes with 40 feet of sticker tape, eight colorful markers, more than 80 color-in designs with features like velvet and glitter and a sticker book. Basically you color the sticker any way you want, put it in the sticker maker (the purple X) and as the sticker you colored slides down, you pull it out and rub the plastic on it a few times. When you pull that plastic coating off, the backside of the sticker you color can now stick to anything! How cool is that?!?
