The Gift that Keeps on Giving with Genworth

This post is brought to you by Genworth Insurance as part of a campaign run by the fabulous ladies at Brandfluential.  All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Last month I told you what I would do if I won the lottery.  I think everyone probably dreams about the possibility of winning the lottery one day!  How can you not?  Now that it’s the holiday season, I could really use a winning lottery ticket with these crazy Christmas lists.  Which I know Christmas is not about the presents, but we don’t spoil our children at all during the year, so when it comes time for Christmas, I get a lot of pleasure picking out gifts for the kids and giving gifts to others.

Every year I have my kids make a Christmas list.  My daughter, for the last couple years, would only ask for ONE thing.  I think she figured if she only asked for one thing, she’d pretty much get that one thing. My son, on the other hand, he always had a list that was a mile long…no joke.

This year my son wants the following:

  • T.V. for his room
  • Xbox 360 or Xbox Onegenworth for his room
  • Amazon gift cards
  • Blu-ray player for his room

Crazy!  But like anything else, Christmas is something you should save for.  That way, when that time of year sneaks up on you, it’s not so stressful.  I know Christmas is the same date every year, but there is something about this time of year…it just FLIES by!  So why not save for it all year long so you know you’ll be covered?!?  Makes sense to me!

There is, however, one thing I feel my husband and I should be looking into…long term care insurance.  Dan and I are not getting any younger and while we are only in our 30’s now, anything can happen at anytime.  And shoot…getting older is not affordable in the least.  The last thing I want to do is put the burden of our care on these two when they get a little older:

To me, Long Term Care insurance is the gift that truly keeps on giving.

My kids didn’t make a list this year, but each asked Santa for one special thing and I am making sure they are getting it.

If I get a vote, I say buy your son a TV and an Xbox One for his room. 🙂

Great post, Leah. Planning is definitely important with everything in life, especially life itself. There are just so many unexpected things around the corner (both good and bad), so whatever you can control and prepare for, you should!

I have been encouraging my mom to invest in long term care insurance. I think it’s a great idea because nursing home or assisted living care is so expensive.

It is hard to find a balance between the things we want and the things we need. Budgeting is important for financial stability in the future but kids do want expensive stuff! Thankfully we have a ‘no electronics in your room’ rule so I dont have to worry about that!

I am so far behind this Christmas season it is not even funny. I’ve never had such a problem. I have in the last couple of years started thinking about retirement which is late since I’m almost 40 but late is still better then never.
