It’s Wednesday which means it is time for another addition to the 30 Things my Kids Need to Know series (see last weeks post here)! I’ve really enjoyed writing the different posts for this series! If you liked to see more than just last weeks, enter “30 Things” in the search bar at the top of the page and it will open up all my posts for this series!

My Dream Job

My dream job is and has always been to be a writer. There are times that I kick myself for not going to college for creative writing, but I think I feared that a career in creative writing was not something that I could make a living with, so I went into teaching. While I enjoy children and I enjoyed being in the classroom, once I had my kids, my heart was not into teaching. And now…with the state of our education and this stupid common core junk, I’m glad I’m not a teacher anymore.

So this brings me back to my original dream, to be a writer. Sure I could go back to college and get the degree I wish I had gotten 10 years ago, but what would be the point? I don’t need a fancy degree to be a writer. I already AM a writer. The moment I decided to start this blog, was the moment I began my dream job! I write every single day. Sometimes it’s my own things I come up with myself and sometimes it is things I write for other people. Regardless, I am a writer!

One of these days I will write the book I so desperately want to write. I would love to write children’s books or young adult books. I have several outlines done for a few different book ideas, I just haven’t been focused enough to actually sit down and write those books. But one day I will!

So let this be a lesson to you…go to school for exactly what you want to. Don’t let your self doubt about whether or not it will be a successful career stop you. Just do it. I don’t care if it is a degree in underwater basket weaving. I bet you will make the best underwater baskets ever made! And if you don’t, oh well. You can always change your mind and do something else.
