Graduation Party Must Haves!

I can’t even believe I am typing these words, but we have a child graduating high school this year! It’s crazy to think about. Every parent probably says this, but it truly feels like yesterday that I was volunteering in the elementary school classroom! Not to mention, I don’t feel like I am old enough yet to have an 18 year old, let alone a high school graduate! However, I do and it’s time to start planning what we will be doing for a graduation party. Whether you plan on having a huge backyard party with every single person you have ever met or a more intimate family affair, there are some just some must have items!

Graduation Party Season

I remember when I graduated. My mom pretty much did everything for my party. Pinterest wasn’t a thing back them (1999) so basically it was cake, food, and a tent for outside. That’s it. Nowadays, with the help of Pinterest, and highly creative teenagers, graduation parties are a huge production. And that’s OK! With that said, if you are thinking, “I don’t want a huge production”…that’s OK too! The whole point is (and should be) to celebrate the graduate on their accomplishments. Like I said earlier, I don’t know quite yet what kind of party we will be having, but that hasn’t stopped me from looking online at a few options and picking up a few graduation party “things”!

The Must Have Party Stuff

One of the things that I think is fun for kids to look back on, and something I wish I had, was something like a guest book. Not the old fashion guest books you see at weddings or funerals where people literally just put their name and address. A fun guest book. I love all of the ideas above. My other favorite idea is to get a journal type book at your local craft store and one of those polaroid cameras and have people take a picture to put in the book! Super fun!

I don’t know about you, but anytime I have a party of some sort, no matter how many lists I make, I always forget something. Rather than running out from store to store, I try to order everything online now. For whatever reason, that really helps me keep track of what I’m getting. And I tend to get the best deals that way too! Here are some miscellaneous things you may need (or want) for your graduation party.

I’m not much of a “decorator” when it comes to parties. I am actually pretty bad at it. However, one thing I know I want is yard signs and lots of pictures! A lot of people choose napkins, plates, etc to match their school colors, which is fine. However, I really like the black and gold plates and napkins I found on Amazon above! They are pretty! Whatever you choose will look nice!

Tips and Tricks I’ve Learned

While I haven’t thrown a graduation party yet, I have picked up a few tips and tricks I learned from others. If you are like me and you like lots of pictures, start gathering those pictures NOW! Since most of my pictures are digital, I will be sending mine to my local Walgreens to print for me. Be sure to look online for a promo code. Walgreens almost always has a 50% off promo code! For pictures that I don’t want to mount on foam boards, I will be going to the Dollar Tree and picking up frames to put them in. While I’m there, I will pick up black foam boards! A good way to attach the photos to the foam board is with this scrapbook tape or mounting squares.
