You know how you go to bed Sunday night thinking, “OK, Monday is it. It’s the day I start”. You know what I’m talking about. You stock the fridge with kale, dust off your yoga mat, swear off sugar, and decide you’re going to become a glowing, green juice goddess by Friday. And then…Tuesday hits. The wellness wagon rolls on by without you. But here’s the good news…wellness does not need to be an all or nothing overhaul. The best routines aren’t the flashy, complicated ones. Wellness routines are small, doable habits you can actually stick with. Think of them as the sweatpants of self care…low pressure, super comfy, and still pretty dang fabulous.

7 Wellness Routines You CAN Do

These new routines are meant to be simple and easy so they become your new norm, propelling your way to your wellness goals.

Number 1: Morning Hydration Station

Before you grab your morning coffee, Diet Coke, or Alani energy drink, drink at least a full glass of water. That’s it. How simple is that? Think of it this way, your body has been in drought mode while you were sleeping. By choosing to rehydrate first thing gives your brain and metabolism a huge boost. You can add lemon for a good dose of vitamin C. Or better yet, try my preferred drink in the morning…my Plexus Pink drink or Plexus Hydrate. <–leave a note in the comments and I can hook you up with the details.

Pro Tip…get a cute water bottle and keep it on your nightstand. These are a few of my favorite water bottles. I have a water bottle addiction! Unfortunately, Amazon did not have my absolute favorite, which is the Owala Freesip Tumbler.

Number 2: Two-Minute Morning Mindfulness

This one does a lot more for you than you think. Just two minutes of deep breathing, repeat a quick intention to yourself, or even just staring out the window, humming your favorite tune can help. How does it help? Well, it’s simple. By taking two minutes, without your phone or another screen, can reset your nervous system and help you to start your day a little more centered. Some people even like to write their daily intentions down. If this sounds like you, then pick up one of these pretty journals and colored pens (duh)!

Number 3: Move Like Nobody’s Watching (Because usually, nobody is)

Forget the punishing workouts where you are at the gym for hours on end. We’re talking about joyful movement. This means a 10 minute dance party, a walk around the block, or a good stretch session that would make any cat stop and take notice. It’s about movement, not marathons. But here’s the catch…make sure you get a little movement multiple times throughout the day. When you have a little time, add in some weights. Building muscle is good for us! All this moving helps to boost endorphins, improves our circulation, and clears those mental cobwebs.

Number 4: Eat Real Food, Most of the Time

You don’t need a degree in nutrition. Just aim for simple, whole foods you recognize. This means colorful fruits and veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains. And please, stop demonizing the occasional donut! So long as you are focusing on getting 100 grams of protein in a day, you are good. Having a donut on a random Wednesday because your boss brought them into work is A-OK! Getting 100 grams of protein in is easier than you think. Just aim to have a little protein with every snack and make it your main portion at meal time and you are good to go! Fuel…not perfection. The goal is to feel better, not stress over every bite!

Number 5: Protect Your Sleep Like It’s Beyoncé

Do you know all that goes on in your body when you sleep? It does some serious maintenance, from hormone balance, memory consolidation, even skin repair. Aim for 7-9 hours, and wind down without screens when possible. Create your own “power down” ritual by dimming the lights, stretch, read, or sip on a calming tea. Your nervous system will thank you in the morning for this power down wellness routine.

Number 6: Laugh More. Seriously. It’s Good for You

Laughter releases those “feel good” endorphins. Not only that, but according to an article by Rachel Hajar, laughter can actually boost your immune system and reduce your pain! So, whether you’re watching your favorite television show, sending silly meme’s with your friends, or talking on the phone, make time for joy in your life. Remember, wellness also includes your emotional health. Don’t be so quick to underestimate the immense power of a belly laugh!

Number 7: Take Your Supplements

A big part of wellness also involves taking your supplements. I would love to say you can get all that you need from going outside and eating good food, but that’s not the case. I live in Michigan, so supplementing with vitamin D is key. Another thing that we need to pay attention to is our gut health. The quality of our gut health impacts so much in our day to day. Plexus Triplex is my go to supplement system for my gut health. It supports your microbiome, which plays a huge role in your life from your mood to your metabolism.

Wellness Routines…The Bottom Line

The key to remember is that wellness is not about being perfect. It’s about being consistent. You’ve probably heard the old saying, “consistency is key” and that’s so true. Small, enjoyable actions and changes is where the magic happens. So, to start out, pick one of the wellness routines above. Try it out. Your best routine is the one that fits YOU, not your friend, not your spouse. You. Now go drink some water and take a dance break. You’ve earned it!

Which of these routines are you excited about trying first? Drop a note in the comments and share this with a friend who needs a reminder that wellness can be simple AND sustainable.
