When I was a little girl, I often thought about my wedding (to Ben Affleck), what kind of house I would live in and how many kids I would have. So I obviously didn’t end up marrying Ben Affleck (darn Jennifer Garner!) and I don’t live in a mansion, but I did have two children; a boy and a girl. I remember my doctor telling me that I may have a difficult time getting pregnant, due to some issues I had, but it only took me about a year with my first and the first or second try with my second. However, some people are not as lucky.

Fact: 7.3 million couples (1 in 6 couples) in the United States today, have difficulty conceiving.

I have a couple friends that tried for years to have children; spent thousands of dollars and it just never happened for them. It always breaks my heart to hear about couples infertility issues, especially when you know they would make the best parents ever. So why are so many couples struggling to conceive nowadays?

  • Environmental and lifestyle factors…for males, estrogen levels are higher, which then results in low sperm counts, motility, and morphology. For females, there is an imbalance in the vaginal pH, a diminishing ovarian reserve, PCOS, endometriosis, etc.
  • Couples are trying to conceive later and later in life.
  • Long waiting periods are given by physicians before further assistance is given.

When couples are given that help they need, it’s usually very expensive, invasive and it comes with a bunch of risk factors such as:

  • Multiple births…one-third of In Vitro Fertilization results in multiples.
  • Genetic risks to offspring.
  • Increased health risks to the female (placed on intensive hormone medications, increased rates of breast and ovarian cancer, and the treatment is stressful which ends up being counter-productive).

So what now? What can couples do that doesn’t cost an arm and leg, poses little to no risk to the female and gives these couples the hope they so desperately need?

 What is The Stork?

The Stork Conception System is an at-home kit designed to help with insemination in instances where low sperm count, sperm immobility, or a hostile vaginal environment has been diagnosed. It works by collecting semen in a cervical cap that is in a condom like silicone sheath and then it is delivered to the outside of the cervix. In other words, the male places the condom with the cervical cap on, they have sex and then the cervical cap is placed very carefully into a device that looks very similar to a tampon, that the woman will insert and leave in for about 6 hours.

How does this work? Can I get more details? My husband and I have been trying for over 2 years with little success. We have conceived a few times and lost the pregnancy. We have talked about IVF but its very expensive.

I’m sorry you’ve experienced that. The info I have in this post is all the info that I have, but I would do a Google search and talk to your doctor about it. Good luck to you and your husband.
