Just a few short hours ago, Regis Philbin announced on his widely publicized show that he will be stepping down from “Live with Regis and Kelly”. I can’t say I’m all that shocked. I mean the guy has been hosting the show for more than a quarter century. I think what’s even more shocking than the fact that he is stepping down is the fact that he is turning 80 years old this year! He looks pretty darn good for an 80 year old man!
So who do you think should replace Regis? My top choice is for Pat Sajack from Wheel of Fortune. The times that he has co-hosted with Kelly when Regis was out of town, the was really great. The two of them work very well together.
But if Pat Sajack is not available, my other choices are:
- Pierce Morgan
- Jeff Probst
- Mark Consuelos
What do you think? Who would you like to see sitting next to Kelly Ripa? Whatever you decide to do ABC, please make it a male co-host…we do NOT need the show that Regis has worked so hard to make a success turn into the same type of train wreck like Today with Hoda and Kathie Lee.
Okay, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I would love to see Anderson Cooper or Mario on there with Kelly. But it just won't be the same without Regis. And 80? REALLY? Wow! Hope I look that young at 50, let alone 80!
Regis was one of the best – and one of the last – great all-around broadcasters. Announcer, side-kick, pitchman, emcee, game show host, sportscaster, newscaster – he did it all and did it well. He is also one of the last to have worked his way up in the medium and to perfect his craft along the way. Now broadcast executives care more about name recognition than talent and experience. An era is ending.

I like Pierce Morgan especially after his interview with Howard Stern. He did a great job!
