A couple months ago I told you about my very own DIY pantry storage shelves. While I absolutely LOVE the storage shelves and think it’s a genius idea, I hated the color of them. It was a very pale blue that was dull and dingy looking. I joked with my husband that he was going to come home from a business trip and that shelving area will be painted a super bright color. Take a look at the shelves. Doesn’t it look dreary?
I had all kinds of images in my head of what I wanted this space to look like. The number one thing I wanted was a bright and cheery color. I spoke with the people at Glidden Paint and they sent me enough paint to brighten this space up. So what color did I choose?!? At first I was going to with a brighter blue. I love blue, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. Then I thought about a really bright yellow, but I was afraid it would look dirty like this light blue. And then I found the color. Orchid Blush!
Yes…I realize it is REALLY bright. But I loved it the moment I looked at it! My husband helped me out by painting for me and the entire time he kept saying “you do realize this is really bright don’t you?”. But that was the point, he just didn’t get that! It took two coats to cover the walls evenly. Neither of us has ever used Glidden Paint before. It was a little thinner than what we have used in the past, but no matter what paint we use, we always put two coats. So while this paint is thinner, two coats covered the walls very well.
So without further ado…
Yes I realize it is very bright, but as my 8 year old son said…”I like it because it makes me smile when I open the door”…and he’s right! Every time I open up the basement door, I smile. I can’t help it. I have found my happy place!! Not only do I love the fact that I have stocked shelves like that and can feed my family from them, but I love that the walls are a happy color! You can’t see it in the picture, but the ceiling is a slanted wall in the stairwell and I want to get a quote that I can stick on the wall. I’d love to get something in the “Keep Calm” quotes like “Keep Calm and Carry On”. So if you know where I can find something like that, let me know!!
