Day One of the Military Diet

While browsing Pinterest the other day I ran across a pin about “The Military Diet”.  Normally I wouldn’t click on something like that.  But I did.  The pin took me to a page that states you can lose up to 10 pounds in three days. Seems pretty unrealistic, doesn’t it?  Nevertheless, I decided to give it a whirl.  What could it hurt (besides being hungry for three days)?  The site has everything spelled out on what to eat at each meal, explains the reasons behind those foods and also states that you really shouldn’t substitute foods, but if you must…it gives you the foods that are OK to sub with.  I did a little Google search on this diet and I also found that this is similar to something called “The Mayo Clinic” diet.

Military Diet Breakfast

Breakfast

  • 1/2 Grapefruit
  • 1 slice of Toast
  • 2 TBS Peanut Butter
  • Caffeinated Water

Here are my thoughts on the military diet breakfast…2 TBS of peanut butter is a lot.  But oh so good!  I don’t eat peanut butter very often, but I love it!  So I was excited to see it on today’s menu.  I’m not much of a breakfast eater, but let me tell you…this filled me up!  Whether I do this diet again or not, I will definitely make peanut butter part of my breakfast routine!  Not once this morning did I get hungry or feel the need to snack.  My stomach also did not feel bloated at all.

Lunch on the Diet

Lunch

  • 1/2 cup Tuna Fish
  • 1 slice of Toast
  • Caffeinated Water

I was a little leery of eating plain tuna fish.  I like it mixed with mayo, but plain???  But it wasn’t bad.  This time I did not toast the bread, I just ate it plain.  Again, this filled me up.  I didn’t start feeling like I was hungry until around 5pm this evening!  Normally I get hungry around 3 and start snacking.  Not today!  And like after  breakfast, I didn’t feel bloated at all.

Finish the Day with Dinner

Dinner

  • 3 ounces of any type of meat
  • 1 cup of tomatoes (supposed to be green beans, but I hate green beans)
  • 1/2 a Banana
  • 1 small Apple
  • 1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream (for real!)

First of all…this was a lot of food!  I started out by grilling a chicken breast on my Foreman Grill .  I simply sprinkled a little salt and pepper on the chicken and grilled.  Turned out great!  The kids even ate it.  I ate the tomato and apple with the chicken.  Once the kids were done with dinner, I scooped out ice cream for all of us.  I decided to cut the banana up and put it over the ice cream (YUM!).  I’m stuffed.  I’m also bloated. Hopefully that goes away soon!

My Thoughts on this Diet Plan

And that’s it.  That’s all the food I get to eat today.  Both breakfast and lunch had me drinking caffeinated water (supposed to be coffee or tea, but I despise both of those).  In between meals and right now, I’m drinking water.  I read that we should be drinking half our body weight in ounces of water.  Well I weighed in this morning at 218.4 (I totally .  So I need to drink 109.2 ounces of water today.  So far I’ve had about 80 ounces of water.  I’m pretty certain I’ll get my water in tonight.

So what do you think about the military diet?  Check out the link above and see if this is a diet you can do for three days.  I’ll be sure to let you know how things go tomorrow, Friday and on Saturday I will weigh in and we can see what I have lost.

What brand of caffeinated water are you drinking? I need to get into some of that and lay off the Dr. Pepper for my fixes when I don’t use coffee. This sounds really similar to a diet my mom did in the 80s – maybe a new name?

Even though this was probably a big shock to change how you eat every meal, the options sound great!! I hope it really works for you! Sounds like a great plan.

I love that it consists of REAL food! But I hate seafood, so I’d have to find a substitute. Keep up the great work!!!
