Shhh…if you’re really quite, you will be able to hear some cheering. We’ve had fun this summer, but the kids are ready to be back in school with their friends, and this mama is ready for the kids to be back in school! So, no matter how happy I am about school starting, the beginning of the school year is always so hectic. Homework is a biggie…5th grade math terrifies me…but the fall is when we have football season. My son may only be 10 years old, but boy does he get off that bus starving and looking for after school snacks!

After School Snacks

This summer was all about independence. First of all, my kids are at the age where they should be able to start making certain after school snacks and meals by themselves. Since the time between getting off the bus and heading to football practice can be kind of crazy, I wanted snack ideas that Zack could make for himself that would be easy and something that would fill him up a tiny bit. While walking through Walmart last week, we came across Bagel Bites and the Delimex Chicken & Cheese Taquitos and the Delimex Beef & Cheddar Rolled Tacos. These looked like great #AfterSchoolSnacks.

Both kids immediately started begging me to buy them. Bella was excited to try the tacos and Zack just wanted food. I like that the Bagel Bites are made with real cheese and homemade sauce and they contain 0 grams Trans Fats! Here’s the best part…the kids could totally make these themselves! Both the Bagel Bites and the Delimex Taquitos can be made in either the oven or the microwave! My kids are pros at using the microwave! We decided to make them both ways…the kids used the microwave and I used the oven. We wanted to see how they tasted both ways!

Microwave vs. Oven

So, tell me, can you tell? The only difference I noticed was that the food cooked in the oven was crispier, but the kids didn’t care! Not only did they like ALL of the food on that plate, but they liked that they could make it themselves! I think their happy faces says it all!
