When I was little, one of my most favorite things to do is was read. I used to bring a book with me everywhere and often times, I would be seen eating breakfast and reading at the same time. Getting so invested in a story that I felt like I really felt like I knew the characters was my favorite. This was great, but when I started reading books that had movies made from the book, I was often left disappointed because the book and the image it would put in my mind was always better than the movie. Always.

Both of my kids have developed a love for reading, which is so GREAT!! As a second grader, Bella is just starting with chapter books. She is beyond excited to be reading chapter books. Buying a new chapter book is something she is always wanting to do.

Books-reading

Bella a couple years ago!

Browsing the book store has me feeling nostalgic about all the books and series of books I read when I was her age. Right now, Bella is reading Ramona Quimby Age 8. The Ramona series was my FAVORITE books when I was her age!! Reading the same books I read at her age is super fun to her. So, I thought I’d put together a list of books that are perfect for your elementary school aged daughter!

  • Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle’s Magic – if you aren’t familiar with this books or the other Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle books, you should be! They are cute and kids love them and I love them because each book has a message that is gentle taught throughout!
  • Amelia Bedelia – These books will make your kids laugh the entire time they are reading it!
  • Pippi Longstocking – I still remember reading this book! Pippi has crazy red hair, a horse living on her porch, and she does outrageous things and has amazing adventures!
  • Sleepover Sleuths – This book is part of a series that I am VERY excited to get Bella started on. This book is part of the Nancy Drew series, but when Nancy Drew is only 8 years old!! Nancy Drew was a huge part of my life! I read ALL of the Nancy Drew books so I am glad to see they are trying to grab the attention of a younger audience!
  • The Little House collection – EVERYONE knows about this series! I can’t wait to share this with Bella and maybe the TV show (if it’s on Netflix!).

Definitely anything by Judy Blume…Fudge, Superfudge…Judy Blume is definitely and author your child should be reading!

What are your daughters favorite books?

I loved reading when I was a kid. And yes, I read all the Judy Blume books. I’ll be keeping those far away from my girls for a while! They both love to read and I’m not surprised because my husband is a huge reader too. So it’s only natural that they both love to read. We seriously spend way too much money when we go to a book store!

These are some really good book selections. I can remember watching the Pippi Longstocking on TV. I also read the Romona series too. I can’t wait to share these with Zeva when she gets older.

I don’t have any elementary aged girls, but I do have boys. My son really like Amelia Bedelia when he was in 1st grade. I remember reading that series when I was a kid!

There are thousands of excellent books out there for so many age groups! I love having a public library for this reason. Can never get enough.

We have a public library, but I hate going to it. They will put stickers on the book stating the condition of the book and then when you return the book, they bill you and say that you damaged it more. It happened to us twice and I finally said forget it 🙁

My 7 ear old LOVEs the Little House on the Prairie! I read the books in French as well as in English when I was little and she is now doing the same. So fun!
