Xylitol for Kids Teeth Health – National Children’s Dental Health Month

Dental health is something I am very passionate about. I wasn’t always this passionate about my teeth health. You see, I used to have a horrible, irrational fear of the dentist. It was bad. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I wasn’t able to go to the dentist because any time I held my mouth open for any period of time, I would puke. Couple that with my fear of the dentist, and I got used to NOT going and didn’t go for 4-5 years. So not good. Especially when you develop Type 2 Diabetes.

So…as you can imagine, I am very diligent about my kids dental health. For Christmas they received their own Oral-B Pro-Health electric toothbrush. They actually really loved the toothbrush and I love it because it keeps them brushing for the entire two minutes they should be brushing for! Which is so much better than the 30 seconds they tried to get away with before!!

February is National Children’s Dental Health month. The theme for this year is “Defeat Monster Mouth” (2014 American Dental Association. All Rights Reserved). It’s important to start good teeth cleaning habits early on. I remember when I was a kid, my dentist used to give us these little tablets that you chew up after brushing and if you had red on your teeth, you didn’t brush good enough. I don’t know if they still make this, but one thing I make sure is that my kids brush twice a day for at least two minutes. They also like to use mouthwash and those little flosser thingies. I’d like to think I am teaching them some good habits!

You can start good brushing habits while they are young. The Spry Tooth Gel with Xylitol is great to use with toddlers to get them started on good oral habits! And who can resist the fun banana toothbrush?!?

If your kids are like mine, they probably like candy. Shoot, I like candy…but we really shouldn’t overdo it with the candy. Not only is it not good for us, health wise, but it’s also not good for our oral health. But…what if I told you about a candy that IS good for you?!? SparX candies are sweetened with 100% natural xylitol.

Xylitol is the all-natural sweetener that has been promoted by dentists and dental hygienists. Clinical studies have verified the positive effects that regular consumption of xylitol can have on improving overall dental health as well as promoting mineral absorption into the teeth.

SparX candy comes in three yummy flavors:

  • Berry
  • Citrus
  • Fruit

You should pick up some SparX candies for your kids (or you! Shh…I’ve been eating it too)…give it to them for Valentine’s day or save them for their Easter baskets. Whatever you choose to do, just know that you are choosing something that is HEALTHY for their teeth!
