How College Graduates Can Protect Their Identity

I’ll be honest, when we really started to hear about identity theft and all the things you could do to protect your identity, I thought it was a bunch of crazy talk and really didn’t pay much attention to it. All I remember thinking was, “who in the world is going to sit and go through MY trash?“. But apparently people do go through other peoples trash. People have WAY too much time on their hands. All joking aside, this is a serious issue. While I’ve been lucky to not have any issues with someone going through my trash, we have had our credit card number stolen and that, in and of itself, is a huge pain to deal with. College graduates need to think about these things as they embark on their “real world” journey.

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Fellowes Brands. I received a product sample to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

‘Tis the season for college graduations! So many kids, who are not kids anymore, are graduating and stepping out in the world on their own. Many are living on their own for the very first time. While this is all fun and exciting, it’s also very scary. Not only do they have to hold down a job and pay their bills, they also need to make sure they are protecting their identity. A great gift for the college grad in your life would be the Fellowes M-12C Shredder!

About the Fellowes M-12C Shredder

The Fellowes M-12C shredder has a slim design, making it the perfect gift for the new college graduate. Whether they are living on their own or still living with mom and dad, this shredder will fit anywhere you need it to. Besides it’s slim design, the other features that I like about this shredder are:

  • It has cross cut blades that will destroy 12 sheets of paper at once! It cuts each paper into 302 particles!
  • SafeSense® Technology automatically stops the shredder when hands touch the shredder opening.
  • Don’t worry about removing paper clips or staples…it can shred them!
  • Got expired credit cards? Don’t pull out the scissors, just shred it!
  • 5 minute run time before it takes a cool down break.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? You can pick the Fellowes M-12C Shredder at Target stores nationwide or at Target.com. It retails for $99.99. For more information, check out the Fellowes Facebook and Twitter page!

Tips for College Graduates

Taking steps to protect your identity is easy, especially if you have the Fellowes M-12C Shredder. The number one thing you should do is NEVER throw anything away that has your name on it. This includes magazine subscription. Before throwing away or recycling your old magazines, rip off the front or back page that contains your address and shred it. Do the same with all the crazy amounts of junk mail you get. It seems tedious, but it’s a very important (and easy) step to take to protecting your identity from all the crazy people in the world that have nothing better to do than to go through your trash. Let them dig and dig and only find how many times you ate fast food that week!

What tips do you have for protecting your identity?

We love our shredder!
