Let’s be real. Your gut is kind of like your best friend. It goes everywhere with you, supports you through your many food decisions, and warns you (usually very loudly) when something isn’t quite right. But sometimes, we miss the signs. So, in the spirit of saving you from another awkward “is that me?” moment at the gym or another post lunch nap attack, here are 5 signs that your gut health might be begging for attention.

5 Signs Your Gut Health is Out of Whack
Our bodies are amazing. More times that not, if we just take the time to listen to our bodies, and research a little, we could learn so much about what is going on and why we may be feeling off. This is so true with our gut health. These 5 signs can clue us in that something is not exactly right in there!

You’re the Star of Your Own Bloating Blockbuster
You eat a salad. Your stomach bloats. You drink water. That makes you bloat too. You think about carbs. And guess what happens? You bloat. If you’re walking around feeling like a human balloon animal, your gut might be having a moment. And no, its not normal to unbutton your pants at 2 pm every day, even if it feels like it should be normal. The excessive bloating after meals is a huge red flag that your gut bacteria might be throwing a rager of a party without you.
Your Bathroom Schedule Has Gone Rogue
One day it’s smooth sailing, the next day you’re praying to the porcelain Gods, and then suddenly…nothing. For days. If your bowel movements are starting to feel like a mystery thriller titled, “The Case of the Missing Poop” your gut may be waving a white flag. In fact, this inconsistent or usually uncomfortable bathroom habit (or lack there of) could be a signal that your microbiome is totally out of sync.
Your Mood Swings Could Win an Emmy
Feeling weepy over commercials? Yelling at your dog for breathing too loudly? Your gut and your brain are actually BFFs, connected by the vagus nerve, which is a direct line from your belly to your brain. If your emotions are doing the cha-cha for no clear reason (like perimenopause, for example), your gut might be throwing the beat off. Fun fact that I learned, an imbalance in your gut can mess with your mood and even contribute to your anxiety and depression.
You’re Tired All. The. Time.
Picture this…you slept 8 hours last night. You drank your morning coffee. Yet, despite all of that, you could nap on a stranger’s shoulder in public and not even feel the slightest bit bad about it. When your gut’s off, your energy levels take a hit. Why is that? Well, it’s because your gut helps absorb nutrients and make neurotransmitters like serotonin. And serotonin is your body’s “you got this” hormone. So, if you are dragging your way through the day, barely getting by, your gut health may need a reboot.
Gut Health, the Unofficial Soundtrack at Quiet Meetings
You know the sound I’m talking about. That gurgle, the squelch, the bubble symphony. And it always happens at the worst possible moment. Sure, a little tummy noise is normal. But if it sounds like a jazz band in there on the regular, that’s your gut saying, “Please, for the love of kombucha, help me out.” From what I’ve read, because everyone knows, I have a noisy gut, unusual or excessive gut noises can mean poor digestion or unbalanced gut bacteria.
What to Do About Your Abnormal Gut Health?
If any (or all) of these signs sound a little too familiar, it might be time to give your gut some love. That means:
- Eat more fiber rich foods
- Cut down on sugar and processed junk
- Take a quality probiotic like the Plexus ProBio 5
- Hydrate like it’s your job
- Consider gut-supporting supplements like the Plexus Triplex (aka your microbiome’s new bestie)
Final thought…listen to your gut…literally. Your gut talks to you. Sometimes it whispers (fatigue or mood shifts). Other times it’s full on drama (bloating, gurgles, and chaos). But if you pay attention, laugh through the awkward moments, and show your gut a little TLC, you’ll be on your way to feeling like your best self. Your best self from the inside out!
