Commemorating a Very Special Royal Wedding

Many fans of the royal family are still high on cloud nine having enjoyed the recent wedding of the second heir to the throne, Prince William, and his lovely bride, Catherine Middleton, known less formally as Kate. They are now, of course, happily married, and enjoy the titles by which they will now be known to us all, of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate Middleton is not of royal descent but, fortunately, long gone are the days when future kings were obliged to marry for political or territorial reasons;  Prince William was able to choose to marry the girl he fell in love with and, as millions of fans will testify, did so with a truly fairy-tale wedding ceremony in Westminster Abbey.
Before the wedding took place, producers were hard at work designing and crafting the royal wedding memorabilia and souvenirs that would mark the event and, in turn, become the antiques and collectables of the future.
Along with the usual commemorative plates, and other fine bone china items such as thimbles, cups, and trinket boxes, there are specially-minted coins, fine crystal, even a copy of the engagement ring which Prince William gave to his bride, the actual ring that once belonged to his mother, Princess Diana.
Most of the items will be engraved or decorated with the coat of arms of the royal family, or even the new coat of arms that has been commissioned for Kate Middleton herself. All of these illustrate history in the making, and mark the next chapter in the life of our much-loved royal family.
The newly-married prince and his wife will have heralded a new generation of royal family fans, along with those who have been following them for years, and now there is a whole new range of royal wedding memorabilia to start collecting; before long, perhaps there will be yet another collection, to mark the birth of a new royal baby.
