Are you hoping to wow your family and friends at your 4th of July BBQ with a dessert that will knock their socks off? A dessert they will be talking about, and now how they talk about Aunt Edna’s Jello mold? Well, then you came to the right place. These soft and chewy gluten free M&M cookies are not only bursting with patriotic pride, but they are a guaranteed crowd pleaser. A recipe that people will be asking you to make over and over again. They are buttery soft and the taste of brown sugar comes through (if you know, you know). And don’t worry, if you aren’t gluten free, just sub with your regular flour (although, I promise, your guests will have zero clue that these are gluten free)!

Why You Will Love These Gluten Free M&M Cookies
Well, aside from being the best cookie you’ll ever taste, they are:
- Easy to make (trust me…double or triple the batch…they will get eaten)
- Perfect for kids and adults
- They travel well
- The cookie dough tastes amazing (please note that I have heard that eating raw cookie dough can cause Salmonella. Just because that has never happened in my life, doesn’t mean it can’t so if you choose to eat raw cookie dough, please be advised.)

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 Cups Gluten Free Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Salt cut in half if you use salted butter
- 1 Cup Butter softened
- 3/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar packed
- 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1 Cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips can use chocolate chunks
- 1 Cup Red, White, and Blue M&M's
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 375°
-
In your stand mixer (or large bowl) beat the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until nice and creamy.
-
Add your eggs one at a time. Beat well after each egg is added.
-
Add your baking soda and salt and mix well.
-
Slowly add your flour and mix until combined.
-
Add your chocolate chips and M&M's and mix.
-
Cover your cookie dough and place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
-
Using your cookie scoop, drop onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. You made need to add or subtract a minute, as ovens vary.
-
Allow cookies to cool slightly on baking sheet for about 6 minutes. Remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
Recipe Notes
A few notes:
- Feel free to substitute regular flour in place of gluten free flour.
- I always use salted butter and just cut the amount of salt I add to a recipe.
- Oven times vary, so the time I give to bake the cookies is what it takes in my oven, in my house. Your oven may be slightly different.
Cookie Baking Pro Tip
If you really want to take your M&M cookie baking up a notch, then press a few M&M’s onto the tops of the cookies as soon as they come out of the oven. This will make them look like they are fresh from your local bakery! No one needs to know how ridiculously easy these cookies are to make. Another tip, but one I doubt the pro’s are using…soften your butter in the microwave. I think I just heard all the bakery pros gasp. Every single time I make cookies, I forget to sit the butter out on my counter to soften. So I pop it in the microwave and nuke it in 12 second increments. BUT be sure to turn the power level down to like 6 so you don’t end up with a puddle of melted butter. Ask me how I know!
So, this 4th of July, skip the store-bought desserts and bake up something that’s as sweet as it is simple. These star-spangled cookies will be sure to wow your crowd.
