What is Actually Happening?
Perimenopause is the transition leading up to menopause, and it can start years before anything officially “changes”. Your hormones, especially estrogen and progesterone, aren’t just declining, they’re fluctuating. Constantly. This is why you suddenly feel like you are on a wild roller coaster and not being let off. Tell me if any of this rings true for you:
- A few days of extreme fatigue
- Feeling cold one minute and then overheating the next
- Mood swings that come out of nowhere
- Trouble sleeping even when you’re exhausted
- Hair, skin, and body changes
If any of those sound like you, then you are not alone. It is NOT in your head. Your body is shifting, and it needs support, not punishment.
So, How Do You Survive Perimenopause?
You first need to understand that this is real life and real life is not perfect. The tips below are doable, but most importantly, they are sustainable. Consistency is key, not perfection. Life happens. Just pick back up where you left off.
Stabilize Your Blood Sugar First
This one is HUGE. And honestly, this is the one that dramatically shifted things for me. When your blood sugar is allover the place, so is:
- Your energy
- Your mood
- Your cravings
- Your hormones
So, what is one simple change you can make that is totally doable? Eat protein first. Seem too simple? That’s because it is. Protein helps you stay fuller longer, prevents those pesky energy crashes, and it supports your body’s natural GLP-1 response. And during perimenopause, this matters more than ever.
Stop Skipping Meals
This totally used to be me. I’d get busy, skip meals, then wonder why I felt shaky, tired, or irritable later. Or I ate everything in sight. Your body is already under stress from hormonal changes. So, skipping meals just adds fuel to the fire. I make sure that I eat three meals a day, prioritizing protein first, and no snacking in between. This small shift has been huge for me.
Sleep Is Not Optional
Listen, you’re not in your 20s or 30s anymore. Although, if you are and you are reading this, sleep is not optional for you either. Sleep is when our body heals. We all need sleep, regardless of our age! When you are tired, you can’t push through on bad sleep. Unfortunately, perimenopause can mess with falling asleep, staying asleep, and even that deep, restorative sleep. If your sleep is off, then everything else feels harder. So…how do you fix your sleep if your body is fighting you on it?
- Go to bed at the same time each night
- Wind down before bed (I read on my Kindle <–It’s on sale!)
- Support your body (magnesium and Plexus Sleep has been a game changer for me)
Support Your Gut (Trust me, It’s All Connected)
This is one thing that people don’t talk about enough, but it’s a big one. Your gut helps to regulate hormones, inflammation, mood, and nutrient absorption. If your gut is off, everything feels off. Bloating, fatigue, brain fog, mood swings…it’s all connected. My gut health was the first thing that brought me to Plexus. The Gut Health system consisting of Slim Microbiome Activating, BioCleanse, and ProBio5 have really changed things for me.
Give Yourself More Grace Than You Think You Need
This might be the most important one. Your body is changing. Your needs are changing. And you know what, that’s OK. You don’t have to do everything perfectly or push through exhaustion. And most importantly, you don’t need to be who you were 10 years ago. You’re allowed to adjust. You are allowed to slow down. You’re allowed to take care of yourself in the way that you need now.
What’s Helped Me Personally to Survive Perimenopause
First…I’m still navigating it all. But one of the biggest shifts for me has been focusing on EVERYTHING I posted above and using my Plexus Slim and Trim combo along with the Gut Health System. These two combos are a large part of my everyday support. Not as a magic fix, but as a way to:
- Stay consistent
- Support my gut
- Help balance my sugar
- Keep my energy steady
And during a phase of life that feels anything but consistent, that matters. You can survive perimenopause without losing yourself in the process. Let me know if you would like help navigating these waters. I’m happy to help!
