Anyone that knows me, knows that I don’t typically make New Year’s resolutions. In the past, I’ve always felt like making them was setting me up to fail. And sometimes I did fail. However, after an absolutely horrific 2020 year, it just seems like I need to move forward into 2021 with some goals in mind. There is no way I want a repeat of 2020. I don’t think anyone does. So, with that thought in mind, I thought about the areas of my life I wanted to change and what I needed to do to make that change. Here are my 2021 New Year’s resolutions.

Why Have I Stayed Away from Resolutions in the Past?
Honestly? I don’t think I was motivated before. However, 2020 was so horrific that I think I am willing to do just about anything to not go through that year again! Seriously! I also really want to be intentional in everything I do in 2021. So my resolutions will be focused in that direction. I also will be using a few apps to help me meet my goals (which I will share in a bit…both the goals and the apps).

2021 New Year’s Resolutions
2021 will be the year of me. I spent all of 2020 focused on everyone and everything, but myself. As a result, I suffered. Both mentally, physically, and emotionally. That will not be happening in 2021. While I will always focus attention onto others and help others (that’s just my nature), I will be making sure to take care of myself, as well.
Getting Back to Keto
The best I ever felt was when I was strict Keto. Not only did I lose weight, but mentally I felt better. Eliminating sugar and really paying attention to what I put in my body not only helped me lose close to 90 lbs, but my stress and anxiety level was WAY better! So, one of my New Year’s resolutions for 2021 is to get back to Keto with intermittent fasting. But not just do Keto. I am committing to one full year of zero Keto cheats. That may seem extreme, but I know I can do it. Shoot, it’s basically what I did the first time around. I will be using an app called, Don’t Break the Chain. Check the app out! You can use it for any type of goal you want!

Using My Rowing Machine
At the beginning of COVID, my husband and I started looking at getting a rowing machine for the house. Since having my knee surgeries, I am pretty limited on the type of cardio I can do. However, everyone and their brother had the same idea to order workout equipment and we got put on a waiting list. We were finally able to order. We went with the Concept2 model D rowing machine. I absolutely love it. It’s the best rowing machine I’ve ever used. So another one of my New Year’s resolutions will be to use the rowing machine at least three days a week. As time goes on, that resolution may evolve into a specific amount of meters I want to row a week, but for now, I would like to row at least three days a week. That app I use to connect to my rowing machine is ErgData.
Planks, Planks, and More Planks
Since I spent the last two years recovering from knee surgeries, one of the things I learned was the importance of core strength. Shortly after knee surgery, one of the exercises they had me doing at physical therapy was planks. It was explained to me that it is important to have a strong core. Without a strong core, things like your joints don’t line up correctly and injuries can occur. So in knowing that, another one of my New Year’s resolutions is to do a daily plank challenge. If you look on Pinterest, there are a ton of plank challenges. I will be using the Don’t Break the Chain app to track my daily planks.
Drink that Water
Finally, the last of my New Year’s resolutions is to drink more water. I’d love to sit here and write that I will be giving up diet pop, but I know that is a resolution that I will not stick to. At the end of the day, in my mind, if I am eating good and not consuming any sugar, I am allowed to have one vice and that will be my diet pop. Will I give it up eventually? Probably, but 2021 will not be the year I do it. At least I am not going to set out to do that. That will set me up to fail if I make no diet pop as a goal. I want to drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of water a day. With working out, I will probably drink more, but my goal will be the eight 8 oz. glasses.

My Resolutions
So there you have it, my 2021 New Year’s resolutions. Just to recap, these are my resolutions:
- Commit to one full year of Keto with ZERO cheats and intermittent fasting
- Use my rowing machine at least three days a week
- Daily plank challenge
- Drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of water a day
The nice thing about those four resolutions is that they all work hand in hand with each other. I will be journaling my entire journey with my resolutions and, as a result, my weight loss too on Instagram. Go follow along!
