How to Make Spider Spray with Essential Oils

Spring is finally here! I know…it doesn’t matter where you live, everyone is happy that winter is over! While it’s nice to see a sunny sky or green grass, one thing I really don’t like about this time of year is all the spiders. Being that our family room, the room we spend the most time in, is on a cement slab, we always seem to have the random spider run across the floor. The worst is when I’m sitting there watching T.V. and all of a sudden there’s a spider dangling from the ceiling in front of my face. It takes everything in me to not throw my laptop when that happens! I needed a spider spray!

I’ve done a lot of research about the different spider sprays out there, but none are really all that safe with kids or pets. We could build a bat house in the backyard, but that freaks me out more than the spiders, I think.

Since I am just getting into using essential oils for everything, I started to research whether there was a particular scent that spiders hate that is safe for kids and pets. I combined a few and came up with my own spray. I have to say…my house smelled nice after!

  • Dish Soap
  • White Vinegar
  • Water

  1. Fill a spray bottle (mine is 12-16 oz) with warm water, almost full.
  2. Put 5 drops of peppermint essential oil in the bottle.
  3. Add a squirt of dish soap and a dash of white vinegar.
  4. Put the sprayer on, shake it up and spray away!

I like the spray bottles sold on Amazon (below). I make sure to label the different bottles and I have them all over my house. Some are used for spider spray; some are used for the bathroom; some are used for everyday cleaner for the kitchen, etc. The dish soap is important because it allows the oil to mix more evenly. I made sure to spray around the entire perimeter of my family room and first floor. I paid close attention to the area around doors and windows. You’ll want to do this once a week or once every other week.

Why Does This Work?

This spider spray works because in all of my research, I read that spiders do not like the smell/taste of vinegar, peppermint or citrus. I decided to give peppermint a whirl. I figured it smelled nice, spiders hate it and peppermint oil enhances mental alertness…BONUS for me!

Have You Tried Essential Oils Yet?

A couple weeks ago I had to make the decision to stop my sons ADHD medication. He was having a lot of not so great side effects. I didn’t want to put him on a different stimulant medication because the likelihood of him having issue with that medication is pretty high. His doctor told me about non-stimulant medication, but I didn’t like what I read about the potential side effects. I decided to take a more natural, non-medication approach to helping my son. And I saw this study having to do with a natural approach using Matricaria chamomilla (commonly known as chamomile) and it solidified in my mind that it was time for me to try this route.

I have several friends using essential oils, but I have to be honest, I didn’t believe it. However, after researching a couple different companies that my friends are apart of, I decided to go with Young Living.

With Young Living you have to options, be a retail customer or become a wholesale member. A wholesale member saves 24% off retail price! See the chart below to determine which option is best for you!

It was definitely a no brainer for me to become a wholesale member! Since I didn’t have to sell anything, but could if I wanted to, saving money on something that I wanted to try for my sons focusing issues, was definitely the right choice. As a wholesale member, you need to pick a starting kit. Take a look at your options…

Again, it was a no brainer. I had to get the Premium Kit. Even if I never decided to take part in the business side of Young Living, I was getting the most for my money with the Premium Kit. So I purchased the kit and waited impatiently for it to arrive. Even though I was excited for my kit to arrive, I was still a little unsure about whether or not this would work, but I had to try it.

While I waited for my kit to arrive, I researched everything you can do with essential oils. I have been dealing with a lot of pain in my wrist. The first thing I did was put Pan Away on my wrist. I kid you not, my pain was gone within 5 minutes. It’s been 5 days and I still have no pain! My husband, the huge skeptic, had me put some Pan Away on his knee that was really hurting him and yet again, it took his pain away in about 5 to 10 minutes!

So how can you become a Wholesale Member with Young Living?
